Women’s Indoor Volleyball Wins in Five Against San Francisco

Pepperdine Women’s Indoor Volleyball traveled to the University of San Francisco on Oct. 24 for their 18th game of the season. The Waves entered the game with a 9-8 record, while the Dons had a 12-7 record.

The Waves and Dons had a back and forth first set, with both teams having large rallies to try and take the lead, but the Waves took the lead towards the end and won the set 25-20.

The momentum in the second set was even, with both teams alternating scores until the end of the set, where the Dons prevailed and scored four points in a row to win the set 25-23.

The Dons dominated the third set, leading by multiple scores through a majority of the set. The Dons scored seven of the final nine points to win the set 25-18.

The fourth set stayed even until the Dons eventually took a four point lead to make it 16-12. The Waves rallied back and tied it up late in the set 20-20.

The Waves ended up outscoring the Dons 10-3 late in the fourth set to take the win 25-21 and force a fifth set.

The Waves started hot in the final set with a 4-0 lead and kept their dominance up, only letting the Dons score six times to win the set 15-6.

Pepperdine ended the game with 63 kills compared to San Francisco’s 57, along with a .251 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Grace Chillingworth had a match-high 20 kills, with graduate outside hitter Birdie Hendrickson following right behind with 18, according to Pepperdine Athletics.

Junior setter Rosemary Archer led the match in assists, putting up 48 of the Waves’ 57.

The Waves dominated serving, with 12 service aces compared to the Dons five. The Waves also had 75 digs and three blocks during the match, according to Pepperdine Athletics.

This is the third win in a row for the Waves to improve to 10-8 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.

The Waves followed the University of San Francisco match with one against Santa Clara University on Oct. 26 where they won 3-1.

The Waves’ next match is against Washington State on Nov. 2 at Firestone Fieldhouse.
