The Humanities and Teacher Education Division at Pepperdine focuses mainly on Western/European culture, history and art and is taught almost exclusively by white professors. Students and faculty both said they want to see more diversity in curriculum as well as in faculty.
Pepperdine’s Teacher Education program requires its students to complete 750 hours — or three semesters — of clinical teaching. These students are completing these requirements virtually, which they have done since the pandemic first began in March 2020.
Fresh Faces features first-year and transfer students in an effort to unite Pepperdine students, regardless of where they are. This installment introduces Mirielle Cox, a passionate History major who wants the subject to be accessible for all students.
