Paws and Pose!
The Student Programming Board (Board) in collaboration with Housing and Residence Life (HRL) hosted their November event of Puppy Yoga. The pup exercise was held at the Seaside Lawn on Nov. 2.
“Well, I mean, who doesn’t love puppies?” Ana Sofia Palmeros, senior and event planner for the Board, said. “When we’re away from home, a lot of times we miss our dogs. We miss the familiarity of being home. So it’s midterm season and we thought it would be a great idea to bring some puppies.”
The Board is Pepperdine’s student event committee. Consisting of 15 Seaver students, the Board’s goals are to “draw the entire Pepperdine community and be inclusive, reaching out to all students,” and “to cultivate an atmosphere of fun in events for the students,” according to their website.
A portion of the Campus Life Fee covers all Board events.
Puppy yoga reduces feelings of loneliness, stress and anxiety, according to CalmClinic.
Pups Without Borders, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dog rescue, provided the pups for the event. The organization aims to rescue canines in “traumatic or dangerous situations,” according to their website. They host “Puppy Parties” where they hold social events with their puppies at different organizations.
“I’m so excited to see a dog,” senior Alia Grogan said. “They’re really fun. And it’s nice when they love you, because it feels, I don’t know. Somebody loves me in the middle of all this.”
The event was quickly met by the rain, which did not dampen the party. Volunteers quickly set up a tent and created a space for Waves to continue enjoying their time.
“The rain is fun,” sophomore Lael Soqui said. “The dogs are literally so adorable and I had a really great time.”
Puppy Yoga was a dual effort between the Board and HRL, intending to bring the Pepperdine community together.
“I’m glad we could come together after a really busy season and play with some dogs,” sophomore and Resident Assistant Ryan Tran said.
