Pepperdine Men’s Volleyball took on Jessup University for the second time and came out on top once again April 11 in Firestone Fieldhouse.
Ryan Barnett, redshirt junior outside hitter, started off the first point of the first set with a kill into the middle without a touch.
The set progressed in a battle of missed serves and kills in the pit. With an error in the net for Jessup, Pepperdine was leading 12-9.
A kill by Barnett made the score 19-15, which was followed by a service error by Pepperdine.
A hit by freshman outside hitter Cole Hartke finished a scrappy point with a cross hit to the 10-foot line, 22-17 Waves.
A service error by Jessup allowed Pepperdine to secure the first set 25-20.

Pepperdine was ready to take their momentum into the second set.
After an assist by Hartke, graduate setter Gabe Dyer sent over a setter dump, making the score 2-1, Waves.
Graduate middle blocker Ethan Hogan started with a kill and went on a service run of three until Jessup could bring a kill into the back left corner, 7-5.
A back-row hit by Barnett caused Jessup to take a timeout, 9-5.
Jessup came out of the timeout swinging, but freshman middle blocker William Whidden and Gabe put up a double block and shut Jessup down.
Aidan Tune, redshirt sophomore outside hitter, went on a six-run service streak, allowing Pepperdine to gain a comfortable lead on Jessup, 15-8.
After another Jessup timeout, Gabe played scrappily with a pancake save, resulting in another Pepperdine point.
Hartke was serving heat at the service line with an ace to Jessup’s back corner, taking the set to set point, 24-13.
A service error by Jessup finished out the second set, with the Waves coming out on top yet again, 25-14.

Jessup started out the third set with a strong defensive front, trailing on Pepperdine’s tail at the beginning of set three, keeping the score tied, 7-7.
The Waves, however, had their eye on the prize and gained a 3-point lead on Jessup, resulting in another Jessup timeout.
Gabe secured a kill after an assist by Barnett, allowing Pepperdine to gain back momentum, 12-9.
However, a short service run by Jessup led to them gaining on the Waves, 12-11.
A kill from Barnett and an ace by senior libero Brendan Read forced Jessup to take another timeout, 17-12.
Pepperdine came out of the timeout with another ace by Read, 18-12.

An assist by Gabe allowed Hartke to tip over the block and secure another point, making the score 19-13.
A side-out point for Jessup and a 10-foot line kill allowed Jessup to stay in the game, 22-15.
Jessup challenged a call after an attack error, but Pepperdine won the challenge and proceeded to win the next point, 23-15.
Barnett held steady at the service line, allowing Pepperdine to be taken to match point, 24-16.
The game concluded with a service error by Jessup, making the score 25-16, resulting in a Waves win.
Pepperdine’s service game was on point, with a total of seven aces throughout the game. They also held a strong game at the net with a total of 35 kills and 31 assists, according to Pepperdine Athletics.
Pepperdine has a conference record of 7-3 and a 17-7 overall record. The Waves prepare to take on Brigham Young University on April 18 at the Smith Fieldhouse.
