Malibu Canyon Road will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Sunday evenings through Friday mornings now through July. The road’s nightly closure started Jan. 2, according to the city of Malibu. Vehicles on the road during this time slot will be detoured onto Kanan Dume Road and Topanga Canyon Boulevard. However, emergency vehicles will be permitted access, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

The Malibu Canyon Road Project consists of “improvements to the tunnel’s interior lining” and repairs to the roadway.

The construction reaps a number of benefits for the city, according to LA County Department of Public Works. It will increase comfort for drivers on the road as well as make vehicles safer.

In addition, the project will foster better water quality with the creation of vegetated swale that cleanses pollutants from storm water and restores groundwater supplies. The project costs $3 million in total.

Call the Road Condition Hotline at 310.506.7623 (ROAD) for the most up-to-date information regarding current road conditions, says Pepperdine University’s public relations office.
