Pepperdine’s Student Wellness Advisory Board (SWAB) hosted their annual flu shot vaccine clinic, Stick-or-Treat on Oct. 24 at the Student Health Center (SHC).
This year’s theme was Welcome to the Graveyard. Students received access to free ramen, exclusive merch and raffle opportunities. Students could enjoy games such as cornhole and mini golf.
“I came to take advantage of the resources Pepperdine provides and to get my flu shot,” junior Summer Hahn said. “I wanted to support SWAB and be in community my fellow Pepperdine students.”
Stick-or-Treat is one of SWAB’s main events in the fall where they host a flu-shot clinic in conjunction with the SHC, junior Sally Hogue, event volunteer said.
“We’re trying to make it a fun event for students to come get their flu-shot and take care of themselves,” Hogue said.
As students checked in they were assigned a color. When their color was called students got taken into the SHC to receive the flu shot.
“This was a completely new system that we implemented in order to reduce wait times in the Health Center,” SWAB wrote in a follow-up email to the Graphic on Oct. 30.
While waiting to be called, students could visit the different booths set up to help complete their Stick-or-Treat Passport, which gave them access to the free merch, food and raffle. The booths that were set up included Rise, Timely Care and Nourish.
Junior Faith Talbott said she attended the event to stay healthy during midterms.
“I came to get my flu-shot because it’s flu season and I have too many tests to get sick,” Talbott said.
She grew up getting the flu shot so it’s become an important habit to get the shot every year, Talbott said.
Hogue said she believes that getting the flu shot is very important, especially at college.
“Getting the flu shot is important because when you come to college you expose yourself to a lot of different people,” Hogue said. “Everyone comes from different places so it’s important to remember to take care of yourself.”
