Before we even got there, the score read 2-0. Friday afternoon LA traffic slightly delayed the arrival of the Graphic Online Daily sports staff. By the time we secured media passes and walked onto the field, seniors Amanda LeCave and Lynn Williams had already knocked a couple points on the board.

No. 11 Pepperdine women’s soccer showed no mercy to Illinois State in Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 21, at Drake Stadium. The Waves ran a clinic in a 4-0 win.

Williams scored again in the second period in the 68th minute thanks to an assist by sophomore Taylor Alvarado. Then, five minutes away from the buzzer, sophomore Kristen Rodriguez found the back of the net with an assist from Williams.

Sophomore Hannah Seabert recorded three saves in her shutout appearance, coming off of her game-winning penalty kick save on Nov. 15. Williams had a team-high seven shots.

The Waves face No. 1-ranked UCLA Sunday, Nov. 23, at Drake Stadium at 3 p.m. in the Sweet 16. This is Pepperdine soccer’s third ever showing in the Sweet 16.

A win against UCLA would send the Waves to the NCAA College Cup in Boca Raton, Florida.
