Pepperdine Women’s Soccer hosted the University of Hawai’i for their home opener in the 2025 season. After a tough battle, the game ended in a 2-2 draw to make the Waves’ record 0-1-1.

Pepperdine was the first team to strike. Graduate defender and forward Megan Edelman put the Waves on top in the 15th minute, according to Pepperdine Athletics. Freshman defender Ariana Markey earned her first collegiate assist which led to Edelman slotting the ball away.

Senior midfielder and forward Tatum Wynalda added to the Waves’ lead four minutes later to put Pepperdine up 2-0 after the first half, according to Pepperdine Athletics. Aside from being strong on offense for the first 45 minutes, the Waves also held their own on defense, as Hawai’i did not get a shot on goal in the first half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Medvecky was crucial in this strong defense. Medvecky notched a season-high six saves in the net for the Waves, according to Pepperdine Athletics.

Pepperdine sets up for a free kick against the University of Hawai’i on Aug. 17 at Tari Frahm Rokus Field. The Rainbow Wahine scored both their goals on set pieces that led to a 2-2 final score.

The Rainbow Wahine woke up in the second half. During the final 20 minutes of the game, the visitors scored on two separate corner kicks to tie the score, according to Pepperdine Athletics.

The draw makes Pepperdine’s 2025 record 0-1-1 after a loss to No. 9 Texas Christian University on Aug. 14. The Waves will be back in action Aug. 21 at the University of Southern California.
