The Pepperdine women’s tennis team improved its record to 4-10 with a 6-1 victory over Princeton Saturday.

“(The win) helped our confidence a lot,” freshman Ceyda Keyman said. “We have a very tough game on Friday. A win is always something that can boost confidence.”

With the win, Pepperdine  snapped its six-match losing streak.

“We’re just now more motivated for the next match,” freshman Aleksandra Kujawska said. “In all the matches that we lost, the singles were really close.”

Freshman Charlotte Vernaz defeated Kavitha Krishnamurthy 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 singles spot. Kujawska claimed the No. 2 singles point, downing Kristi Watson 6-2, 6-2.

Freshman Karin Schlapbach trounced Princeton’s Priya Bhupathi 6-2, 6-3 to capture the No. 3 singles point. Stephaine Berg collected Princeton’s lone point, defeating freshman Anna Andersson 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles spot.

Waves sophomore Monika Horvath downed Mateya McCoy 6-1, 6-3 and freshman Veronika Koksova defeated Kristen Carlin 6-2, 6-2 to capture the last two singles points.

In doubles action, Koksova and Vernaz defeated a Princeton team of Avantika Bhargava and Krishamurthy 8-5. Princeton’s Bhupathi and Watson teamed up to defeat Kujawska and Schlapbach 8-5.

Andersson and Horvath teamed up to seal the doubles point for the Waves, downing Berg and Alex Kobishyn 9-8.

The Waves travel to USC Friday to take on the Trojans in a 1:30 p.m. match at Marks Tennis Stadium. The Waves then host Nothwestern at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

“We lost (to USC) last time,” Kujawska said. “However, anything can happen. We always can win. We changed a little bit in doubles so hopefully we will get that point. Anything is possible.”
