Pepperdine junior Andre Begemann and sophomore Omar Altman will compete at the International Tennis Association National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships in Colombus, Ohio, today through Sunday.

The duo received an at-large bid into the doubles championships, while Begemann received an automatic bid after winning the singles championship of the ITA Western (South) Regionals on Oct. 23 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

The championships, hosted by Ohio State University, will feature a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women.

Today’s action will kick off with doubles at 11:45 a.m. when the Wave pair faces Julien Carsuzaa and Dennis Riegraf of Lynn University. Begemann will face Jared Drucker of Columbia in the first round of singles play at 5:30 p.m.

“After the great spring and the national championship it is always hard to fire up again,” Begemann said. “I want to go to the National Indoors and show everyone that the title in the spring is not everything I am capable of.

“I am so excited and proud that I can represent the school at the nationals.”

Other members of the Pepperdine men’s tennis team will be playing at the Southern California Intercollegiate in Los Angeles beginning Friday.

Senior Richard Johnson, junior Oliver Hyams and sophomore Troy Aiken will participate in the team’s final tournament of the fall season.
