After four years in its current Malibu location in Point Dume Village, SunLife Organics is set to open another store in the Malibu Country Mart. The new location, scheduled to open in late spring, will be located in the empty space vacated by Howdy’s Taqueria in November.
SunLife Organics offers organic produce, superfoods and supplements in the form of juices, shakes and bowls. Students, celebrities and Malibu locals flock to SunLife for their açaí bowls made with fresh açaí sorbet, banana, granola, hemp seeds, strawberry and coconut. Their juices, shakes and bowls are made with fresh and unique ingredients such as goji berries, raw cacao and bee pollen.
Sophomore Grace Abiera has worked at SunLife Organics Malibu location since September. “We have so many valuable and amazing customers here in Malibu, so it only makes sense to make our store and products more accessible to them,” Abiera said. “The Country Mart is such a central part of Malibu, and this location closer to Pepperdine will give students an opportunity to enjoy quality foods closer to campus.”
SunLife Organics has been slowly expanding from its one store in Malibu into a chain of stores throughout Southern California. A Thousand Oaks location opened in May 2013 and a Calabasas location opened in June 2014.
Owner Khalil Rafati opened SunLife Organics in 2011 after traveling to Indonesia, India and Central America to find the best natural products and superfoods. After creating juices and smoothies from these superfoods and taking organic supplements, Rafati found a significant increase in his energy. Rafati said he opened SunLife Organics with a mission to “love, heal and inspire one another.”
SunLife Organics joins recently opened stores Burro, a boutique gift shop, Curve, a high-end fashion boutique; and Cie Sparks Salon. Diesel bookstore and Howdy’s Taqueria are among recently closed stores in the Country Mart; However, Howdy’s plans to relocate and create a full-service restaurant in the vacant Granvita Restaurant space at the Malibu Colony Plaza Shopping Center.
“We are so excited to include SunLife Organics in the Malibu Country Mart family,” director of marketing for the Country Mart Elizabeth Maulhardt said. “We love being able to support a local business, provide a healthy dining alternative and have a closer location to the Pepperdine community. “
