A man died on John Tyler Drive near the north entrance of the campus after having an apparent heart attack yesterday, witnesses said.
Public Safety would not comment on the incident because of an ongoing investigation and would not release the man’s identity.
The Pepperdine men’s rugby club team saw the incident while practicing at Alumni Field.
Hunter Poarch, captain of the team, said the man was driving his car when he began experiencing medical problems. Bystanders pulled the man from his car, Poarch said.
Poarch said Matt Evans, the rugby club president, ran down to the man, took his pulse and waited until Public Safety arrived.
“It was just all-in-all a scary experience,” Poarch said. “The team got together and said a little prayer for [the man].”
Evans could not be reached for comment.
Public Safety blocked Banowski Drive and John Tyler Drive until a coroner with the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department arrived to remove the body at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department would not comment until the coroner’s report was filed and the man’s family was notified.
