Waves sweep Bisons for first home victory

Pepperdine looked to rebound from a distressing five-game loss to Nevada last night, and bounce back they did. The Waves swept the Lady Bisons of Lipscomb this afternoon by scores of 30-28, 30-13 and 30-16.

The Waves started the second match of the season with a closely contested first match. Pepperdine came out of the gates quickly, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. The Lady Bisons kept the game interesting, tying the Waves at 12, then taking their first lead with a score of 15-16. The orange and blue roared back, gaining momentum as time wore on. Pepperdine closed the game out 30-28 behind freshman Kristen Seaton’s four kills and sophomore Kiah Fiers’ 12 assists.

Pepperdine rode the momentum of the game one win into the second game, and it wasn’t even close. The Waves began breaking away with the game at 11-6, and in no time, the score was 18-7. Pepperdine steamrolled their way to take the second game by a tally of 30-13. The Waves were led by junior Julie Rubenstein’s nine kills, and as a team, recorded nine blocks.

Much like the second game, the third game was a no-doubter. The game started in a seesaw, but with the score 15-12 and Seaton serving, the Waves began their surge. A 12-1 run, powered by three Seaton aces, put Pepperdine ahead by a large margin. A helpless Lipscomb team all but gave in, and the Waves took the game and match with a 30-16 victory. Pepperdine won the match by a score of 3-0.

In less than 24 hours, Pepperdine put out a much-improved effort.
“Last night we didn’t finish,” said Seaton of Friday night’s heartbreaking 2-3 loss. “We didn’t put the game away.”

Today, the Waves took care of business, finishing out the game in dominant fashion. “Our serving and passing won us the game today,” said Seaton.

Pepperdine looks to build upon their convincing win later tonight, when they go head-to-head against Arizona at 7:30 p.m. in Firestone Fieldhouse.
