SoulCycle: Spin Your Soul Out

August 26, 2014 by Shayla Girardin

I’ve never considered myself a cyclist, so when my close friend offered me a free pass to SoulCycle Malibu I was a little sheepish. The next day, I found myself in a dimly lit room surrounded by a sea of bicycles trying to keep up to the beat of the music while maneuvering hand weights.

SoulCycle Malibu is a 45 minute full-body workout designed to take fitness to the next level.

“SoulCycle focuses on rhythm and the energy of the ‘pack’, which creates a strong bond between riders,” wrote Kristyn Clark, Assistant Public Relations Coordinator at SoulCycle. “The classes consist of choreography (dancing on a bike) and the use of hand weights to simultaneously tone the upper body and core.”

Since opening in May 2014, SoulCycle Malibu has become a popular destination for locals. Whether you’re looking to work up a sweat or burn some calories, SoulCycle offers a workout for every fitness level.

“SoulCycle is an amazing workout,” Reagan Reade, a Pepperdine Junior and SoulCycle employee said. “It’s an amazing community to be a part of!”

One SoulCycle class burns anywhere from 500 to 700 calories in just 45 minutes. Classes are available from 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Individual classes cost $30 each.

While SoulCycle Malibu does not offer discounted rates for Pepperdine students, “everyone’s first class is only $20 and includes complimentary shoes and water,” Clark wrote.

So grab a fellow Wave and get ready to spin your soul out!
