Breast Cancer Awareness Month ended with Halloween, but Megan Small, of Kappa Alpha Theta, and Julianna Reed, of Delta Gamma, have not let November dim their desire to raise money for the cause, a disease that, according to Reed, has affected many of her sorority sisters’ families.
This Saturday, members of sororities across campus will come together during Preview Day, when prospective students visit Pepperdine. Upon entering the Café they will be greeted by sorority representatives selling baked goods featuring the color pink available from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. or until the treats are gone.
The money raised will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation where donations will be made in the names of six Pepperdine mothers who are facing breast cancer or recovering.
“You probably have an aunt or sister who has been affected by Breast Cancer because it so prevalent in our society,” Reed said.
The organizers have not projected a desired sales outcome or worked on a business model. But this old-fashioned bake sale has the support of all sororities, according to Reed.
“We are showing them that we are supporters, while actually being able to help the cause,” Reed said.
