Soccer scrambles vs. USF

December 31, 2013 by Cambria Lagana

With junior Lynn Williams and freshman Kristen Rodriguez fresh out due to injuries, the women’s soccer team falters.

The women’s soccer team fell to University of San Francisco at 0-2 on Friday.

Junior Lynn Williams, a forward and the West Coast Conference’s leading goal-scorer with 11, missed her second straight game. Also, forward freshman Kristen Rodriguez did not play due to an injury, and forward junior Amanda LeCave has been out the entire year.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Seabert currently has 105 goalie saves, which is close to the school record of 119 saves, set in 2005 by Anna Picarelli. With two games left in the regular season, Seabert has the chance to beat this school record.

This past game was the team’s first time losing to University of San Francisco since 2006.

The team had six shots on goal and three fouls against USF’s eight shots on goal, two goals and six fouls.

This weekend was difficult for the women’s soccer team as it fell to No. 9 Santa Clara. Forward junior Ally Holtz and forward senior Michelle Pao both scored. Despite the two goals, the Waves lost 9-2 and dropped to 9-7-2 overall and 4-4 in the WCC.

Holtz and Pao scored in the first 17 minutes to push the Waves to a 2-0 lead.

Holtz, who earned WCC Player of the Week honors last weekend, opened the scoring at 4:55 when she scored off a Pao corner kick.

Pao made it 2-0 at 16:19 by cutting through a couple of Bronco defenders and taking a distance shot for her second goal of the season.

However, the Broncos evened the score to 2-2 by halftime, and added five more in the first 17 minutes of the second half to steal the win.

Pepperdine concludes the regular season with a Wells Fargo PCH Cup matchup at rival LMU on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.
