Taverna Tony is an iconic Greek restaurant in the Malibu Country Mart, famous among Malibuites and Pepperdine students for its bread and insanely delicious Greek dip.
The dip’s recipe was historically kept a secret. They denied me the recipe a few years ago when I asked for it.
The secrecy made the famous dip-and-bread combo even more coveted. Now, the recipe for the dip is available online.
My friends and I think the dip is so addictive that when we visit the restaurant, we often fill up on the bread and dip and take most of our main course home for the next day.
It is probably obvious by now that I believe Taverna Tony is well worth the hype.
Taverna Tony is famous not only for its starters but also for its ambiance and entrées. The restaurant has a large outdoor patio, indoor dining room and main dining room. Lights hang along the roof to create a cozy feeling at night.
The restaurant has the perfect Greek vibe. Its traditional blue and white architecture follows Greek Cycladic patterns that radiate Greek Patriotism and authenticity, according to Elxis.
Every weekend, Taverna Tony alternates between a live band and belly dancers to add to the restaurant’s lively atmosphere.
Finally, the restaurant has a variety of Greek dishes. Taverna Tony boasts everything from traditional plates, like Moussaka and Baklava, to Greek-style salads and seafood dishes, like bass fish.
From my experience, the food always tastes fresh, and the portions are large.
For anyone looking for a fun meal out with a great ambiance, music and a tasty meal, I will always recommend Taverna Tony.
