A blockage in a Los Angeles County sewer line resulted in an overflow near Stauffer Chapel 4 p.m Tuesday. The pressure from a nearby clog knocked a manhole cover off and liquid waste began flowing into the road. Facilities Maintenance & Planning (FM&P) responded to stop the flow and divert the sewage by pumping it into a different line. “We’re securing it and bypassing it to an open sewer line until LA County can get here,” Facilities Mechanical Manager Vincent Ortiz said. After the flow was stopped, FM&P continued hosing down the area to fight contamination and the pungent odor covering the area.
