RECAP

The No. 9 ranked men’s tennis team handed No. 8 Baylor its first loss of the season last Friday and in the process extended its 20th straight win at home dating back to the 2000 season. Senior Al Garland is currently ranked No. 3 in the country for singles play.

RECAP

The Waves were hurt by 25 service errors in their five-game loss to the University of the Pacific, but senior middle blocker Chris Van Reusen hit .611 with 12 kills on 18 attempts. Pepperdine got it together the next night at Stanford and defeated the Cardinal with the help of 19 kills from senior opposite hitter Lance Walker. Senior setter Beau Daniels dished out 70 assists on the night as well. At BYU, the Waves became the first team to sweep the Cougars at Smith Fieldhouse since 1991. Freshman outside hitter Sean Rooney led the Waves with 17 kills the first night and junior middle blocker Brad Keenan smashed 13 kills in the second match. At USC, Keenan hit a perfect five for five along with four aces in the stomping of the Trojans. The Waves are currently ranked No. 2 in the country according to Volleyball Magazine and No. 3  according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

RESULTS

The women’s tennis team is currently suffering though a six-match losing streak. Only Veronika Koksova, Anna Andersson, Monika Horvath and Charlotte Vernaz have won singles matches for the Waves during this stretch. The Waves are currently ranked No. 42 in the country.

RECAP

The men’s baseball team is 6-9 in their last 15 games and 1-2 in WCC Conference play so far. Last Sunday, the Waves avoided the first sweep by a conference team since 1977 when freshman Steven Kleen hit a chopper to third, causing Gonzaga third baseman to make a throwing error to home in an effort to throw out junior Duke Sardinha who scored the run to end the ballgame. Sardinha was 4-5 on the day with three runs scored. Sophomore Jacob Barrack recored his third win on the season with the win over the Zags.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

LAST MEET

Junior diver Michelle Barker was tabbed as the “Diver of the Year” after winning the one-meter and placing second in the three-meter events at the PCSC Championships  on Feb. 19-21. The Waves finished third at the meet with sophomore Lindsey Krusen recording a third place finish in the 200 butterfly.
