Rugby ends season ranked in the nation's elite 8

April 18, 2011 by Kayla Ferguson

The Pepperdine men’s rugby team headed to San Diego this past weekend to compete in the first two rounds of the national rugby tournament.

On Saturday the Waves took on Rice University the No.1 rugby team in Texas. Although the match was hotly contested for the entire first half and the majority of the second the Waves defeated the Owls 30-20 allowing them to claim a place as one of the top 8 teams in the nation.

On Sunday the Waves took on Sierra JC their only opposition heading into the national championship in Pittsburgh next weekend. Unfortunately  the Waves lost ending their season with a 14-2-1 overall record.

The Waves entered the 2010-2011 season not ranked on the national level and even though they will not be competing for a national championship next weekend they remain optimistic about the team’s improvement this season and next year’s potential.
