Pepperdine volleyball legends in the making

June 15, 2011 by Andy de Burgh Sidley

We all know that the Pepperdine men’s volleyball team is good. But just how good are they? Incredibly good, if you take into account that four Pepperdine-bound students were announced on the roster for the U.S. Boy’s Youth National Team. On top of that, Maurice Torres and Josh Taylor will be both be playing for the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team at the 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior (U-21) World Championships this August in Brazil. Torres and Taylor are no newcomers to the national scene though; they won the NORCECA Men’s Junior Continental Championship in 2010.

Both Torres and Taylor had excellent 2010-2011 seasons. Torres added 1.25 digs and 0.60 blocks per set to help lead the Waves, who beat national championship team Ohio State this past season.  Taylor is set to start at Pepperdine this fall and has an incredible resume. He has been involved with U.S. volleyball since 2008, and competed at the FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championships in Italy.

Pepperdine coach David Hunt is one of the coaches for the USA team.
