Pepperdine University named Brian Barrio as the associate director of athletics for compliance last Thursday. He will join the Waves staff on Aug. 1.
Barrio comes from the American East Conference, where he worked first as the associate commissioner for compliance, and then as the associate commissioner for compliance/administration and chief of staff. He has held these positions since 2008.
“I am thrilled with the addition of Brian Barrio to the Pepperdine Athletics staff,” Steve Potts, Pepperdine’s director of athletics said in a press release. “Brian brings considerable experience and commitment to this critical area of our program. He is a man of great character and integrity and we look forward to welcoming Brian and his family to Pepperdine.”
Potts recently took over the position of athletic director after John Watson stepped down in early 2011.
Of his new position Barrio said, “The vision that Steve Potts and President Benton have for this program is inspirational. The opportunity to return to Southern California and be a part of an institution that excels academically, excels on the playing fields, and yet maintains its focus on helping student-athletes develop into quality people makes this the total package for me,” according to the press release.
Barrio graduated from Boston College in 1999 and earned his juris doctorate from the University of California-Hastings College of the Law in 2005.
