Pepperdine mourns unexpected death of employee

May 10, 2011 by Edgar Hernandez

The Pepperdine community suffered the loss of Juan Cueto Hernandez this afternoon. Cueto Hernandez passed away on campus while playing soccer during his lunch time hour.

Hernandez had been a Pepperdine employee for 21 years. He currently worked as a leader in the University’s Campus Operations Landscaping Services.

Cueto Hernandez wasn’t the only one in his family working for Pepperdine. His brother Ernesto Cueto works in Landscaping Service as an equipment operator and his sister-in-law Anita Cueto works as a custodial ambassador.

Jerry Derloshon, executive director of public relations, described the death as “a great loss for Pepperdine and hopes the community will be  mindful that his family, friends and loved ones need our prayers.”

The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. in Stauffer Chapel. Members of the Pepperdine community are invited to attend the service.
