Pepperdine mourns the passing of two members of the community

The Pepperdine Community was saddened to learn that Patricia A. (Patti) Bright, much admired and loved faculty member, died yesterday. She was a long-time member of the Pepperdine community, having coached volleyball from 1975 – 1978, and she was a physical education instructor from 1979 to the present time.

An All American athlete, Patti was a competitive volleyball player and coached at the highest international level of the sport. She played on two U.S. Olympic teams.

Pepperdine’s Chaplain D’esta Love is working with the family to plan a special event on campus in the next few weeks to remember Patti. All members of the University community will be invited to attend this celebration of Patti’s life.

Patti is survived by her husband, Mike.

The University community was also saddened to learn this morning that Mozell Bowers, wife of Calvin Bowers, has passed away. Dr. Bowers was a long-time Pepperdine administrator and member of the faculty.

No details are available at this time regarding services, but a follow-up message will be sent as soon as more information is known. In addition to her husband, Calvin, Mrs. Bowers leaves behind two daughters, Lori Bowers and Crystal Guy, and a son Byron. Condolences can be sent as follows:
