The Pepperdine community gathered Oct. 17 to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the PCH crash that took the lives of four beloved students: Niamh Rolston, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weir and Deslyn Williams — affectionately remembered as “Our Girls.”
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) and Panhellenic organized a flower memorial at Lower Adamson Plaza, where students, faculty and staff could pause their day and pay respects to the women.
Attendees wrote heartfelt notes, attached them to flowers and placed the bouquets at the women’s memorial, creating a space for reflection and connection.
The flower memorial provided a space for those to reflect on this year, a year without the four women.
“Pepperdine has really made an effort to bring us all together in remembrance for the way that these girls impacted all of us,” Charlie Robinson, senior Alpha Phi member, said.
The University hosted both a formal memorial service and candlelight vigil at the Ghost Tires for the women, offering even more opportunities for the community to honor and reflect on the women’s lives.
For many, this anniversary is a time of mourning and healing, as students and faculty come together to support one another and keep the memory of the women alive, Robinson said.
“It’s been really beautiful,” Robinson said. “I’ve just seen a lot of people coming together.”
Pepperdine continues to honor the legacy of “Our Girls” through the permanent Four Lights Memorial behind Stauffer Chapel a lasting tribute to their impact on the community. The four lanterns light up each day at sunset, overseeing the Pacific Ocean.
