DON’T THROW YOUR BATTERIES IN THE TRASH
Due to a new state regulation encouraging environmental consciousness, Pepperdine staff, students and faculty will now be required to dispose of all used batteries in designated receptacles only.
The new mandate affects all large California organizations, including Pepperdine, and requires that they treat all used batteries and surplus computer/TV monitors as hazardous materials and these items can no longer be deposited in regular waste receptacles.
“Used/Waste Batteries” collection containers for used dry-cell batteries — penlight, AA, AAA, C and D — are located at the loading dock between Payson Library and Thorton Administrative Center, Pier 18 on lower dorm road between dorms 17 and 18, and at Central Plant Operations.
Dry-cell batteries may also be disposed of through campus mail by sealing items in a ziplock plastic bag and labeling it “Battery Recycling Program.”
GET AHEAD WITH CAREER COACHING
Prospective students looking to get an edge on the job market can get a helping hand through trained members from the Career Coaching Program.
The program “helps close the gap between where you are now and where you need to be to succeed” by teaming program participants with top professionals interested in assisting with professional development. Additionally, the program helps students develop professional savvy, understand office etiquette and politics, build professional networking skills, master the skills needed to get a desired job and strengthen interviewing techniques. Seasoned professionals also give resume advice.
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2002-2003 program and are due by March 25. Call the Career Services office at ext. 4184 for information.
