Malibu resident named finalist for National Jewish Book Awards

January 20, 2012 by Pepperdine Graphic

The Jewish Book Council has named Malibu resident Tema Merback’s In the Face of Evil: Based on the Life of Dina Frydman Balbien as a finalist for the 2012 National Jewish Book Awards, according to the MalibuPatch.

The book is entered in the “Children’s and Young Adult Literature” category and tells the story of Merback’s mother who survived the Holocaust.

“They [stories of Holocaust survivors] are all worth publishing or writing down,” Merback told MalibuPatch. “It’s very important that these stories are recorded because these people are dying. Ten years from now, they’re almost all going to be gone, and they won’t be able to tell their stories anymore.”
