Malibu Gets an "F"

February 5, 2009 by Pepperdine Graphic

An “F” is a bad grade to get anywhere.

In American Lung Association’s annual report Malibu received an F for overall tobaco control.

Malibu firefighters say they don’t see what good comes from smoking and that these laws needed to be tightened up as smoking is a detriment to one’s health and saftey.

Local coffee shops and restaurans have removed ashtrays from their outdoor seating areas to divert smokers.

Firefighters have also noted that brush fires are the product of strong Malibu winds and the occasional cigarette toss which all to often results in major damage in Malibu.

The city also received an “F” for smoke free housing a “D” for smokefree outdoor air “F” for tobacco prevention and another “F” for reducing sales of tobacco products.
