Madonna feels burn at Rasberry Awards
Madonna may not be as versatile a performer as she thought.
Thee musician-turned-actress was shamed Saturday at the 24th annual Rasberry awards, when she tied with Britney Spears for Worst Actress. She was also named Worst Supporting Actress for her performance in “Die Another Day,” as well as the fairer half of the Worst Couple in “Swept Away,” which won Worst Picture.
The “Razzies” are distributed by an independent group to those responsible for the worst achievements in film of the year.
Clothing thief makes off with Oscar gowns
Angelina Jolie literally didn’t have anything to wear to the Oscars Monday.
The dress the actress had planned to wear was stolen from designer Scott Henshall’s car in London last Wednesday. Jewelry, accessories and other gowns were lifted from the designer’s car while it was parked in Knightsbridge, a high-class area of town.
“There is no way I can remake Angelina’s or any other dresses in time,” Henshall said in a CNN interview. “There were 20 outfits in the collection and now the nine most glamorous have gone.”
‘Superman’ hits more casting roadblocks
Warner Bros. Pictures’ attempt to make “Superman” fly can’t seem to get off the ground.
Brett Ratner, the movie’s former director, announced last Wednesday that he would no longer be directing the film.
“The difficulty in casting the role of Superman has contributed to my decision,” he said in a statement that evening.
Ratner is signed to make “Rush Hour 3” for New Line Cinema sometime next year. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is left with neither a leading man nor a director. The company still plans to move forward with the film, however.
Eminem represents hip-hop at Oscars
Hollywood and hip-hop got one step closer to being on friendly terms Monday night.
The evening saw one of rap’s most widely-known representatives, Eminem, take home an Oscar for Best Original Song. The theme of “8 Mile,” “Lose Yourself,” beat out tracks from blockbusters “Gangs of New York” and “Chicago,” among others.
Eminem wasn’t present at the 75th Academy Awards ceremony to pick up his award for unknown reasons. The co-writer of “Lose Yourself,” Luis Resto, accepted the Oscar on the rapper’s behalf.
‘Dark Side’ celebrates 30th anniversary
The complete makeover of a classic album only comes once in a blue moon.
That’s why the 30th anniversary of “Dark Side of the Moon” has Pink Floyd fans so excited. EMI has released a 5.1 surround-sound version of the record-breaking album. James Guthrie, long-time Floyd producer, remastered “Dark Side” to make full use of five speakers and a subwoofer. Guthrie went back to original recordings to make guitars, percussion and vocals come directly at the listener from all directions.
“We felt that the musical content should be consistent and faithful to the original stereo mix,” Guthrie told Rolling Stone. “I did not want to turn this into a video game.”
