Pep’s Man of La Mancha nominated
Pepperdine’s fall musical from 2002, “Man of La Mancha,” has been nominatd for eight Robby Awards for “distinguished achievement in theater.” The awards are selected by Southern California theater critic Rob Stevens.
The nominations include the Pepperdine Fine Arts Division for Best Production of a Musical, Joseph Obermueller as Best Actor in a Musical, Lindsay Scott as Best Actress in a Musical and Benjamin Schmitz as Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.
On the technical side of the stage, Chris Stivers was nominated for Best Musical Direction, Rick Aglietti for Best Scenic Design, David Barber for Best Lighting Design and Cathy-Thomas Grant for Best Director of a Musical.
Alumnus Corey Geenan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the Riverside production of “Sweeney Todd.”
The awards will be presented Monday, Feb. 24.
Harry Potter blessed by Catholic 
Church
Rev. Don Peter Fleetwood told a Vatican news conference that he does not see any problems with the “Harry Potter” series.
He stated that author J.K. Rowling’s intentions are clear — her books help readers to distinguish between good and evil.
Dawson’s Creek finale set for May
After five years on the air, “Dawson’s Creek” will see its last episode May 14. The two-hour finale will air on the WB.
Stars of the show James Van Der Beek (Dawson), Katie Holmes (Joey), Michelle Williams (Jen) and Joshua Jackson (Pacey) said they will be pursuing their careers in film once their contracts are up.
The show is currently the WB’s No. 2 program among ages 18-34.
Love arrested Tuesday at Heathrow Airport
Courtney Love was arrested by British police at Heathrow Airport Tuesday after complaints from the cabin crew that she had abused them. Love was on her way to Britain to attend an Elton John charity show scheduled for Wednesday.
British police said Love refused to sit down and fasten her seatbelt. The pilot then radioed the airport before landing. She was arrested on charges of disruptive behavior and endangering an aircraft.
Houston’s manager, father dies at 82
Whitney Houston’s father, John Houston, died from a cardiac arrest Sunday after a lifetime of living with diabetes and heart disease, family members said.
The last few months between the father-daughter duo were not peaceful, as the elder’s agency sued the pop singer for $100 million, claiming that she had never paid him for his managerial assistance with finances and negotiating a record contract.
Whitney was the youngest of his four children from his first marriage and his only daughter.
John Houston died at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.
