Longtime Pepperdine University supporter dies

February 27, 2011 by Pepperdine Graphic

Dorothy Stotsenberg a Malibu resident and long time supporter of Pepperdine University died at the age of 97 on Friday Feb. 25.

Dorothy was a member of the Crystal Wave Society and served on the Crest Advisory Board as well as the Center for the Arts executive board.

Dorothoy and her husband Edward G. Stotsenberg’s generosity towards the University made the construction of the Stotsenberg track possible.

After moving to Malibu in 1949 the Stotsenbergs desired a decent place to train for their frequent marathons. At the time the Pepperdine track was nothing but dirt and the donation the Stotensbergs made allowed major improvement to be made. In 1989 the Olympic-sized eight-lane track with an all-weather surface was dedicated to them.

Dorothy’s husband Ed died in 2002. Pepperdine’s track a journalism scholarship Pepperdine 5K and 10K races the Stotsenberg International Guitar Competition and the Stotsenberg Recital Series at the Center for the Arts all honor the Stotsenberg name.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday March 23 at 10a.m. in Smothers Theatre at Pepperdine University. In lieu of flowerscontributions can be made to:
