Want to treat yourself to a creamy latte? Well, now you can enjoy an almond milk latte from La Brea Bakery guilt free!

In response to the growing percentage of health-conscious students, La Brea is now offering almond milk as an alternative to dairy milk.

Seaver junior Stacey Lee says she’s glad to make the switch to almond milk.

“I love getting almond milk in my iced lattes at La Brea, “ Lee says. “I wish all coffee shops had the option!”

Coffee serves as a terrific morning pick-me-up during a long day of classes, and La Brea is going above and beyond to make sure they cater to every student’s health needs.

Evaristo Soto, a La Brea barista, says the bakery is thrilled to offer almond milk as an alternative to students.

“We think it’s good for students,” Soto says, “and it’s a healthier option for students that can’t drink dairy products.”

The advantages of almond milk are numerous. Almond milk is made from ground almonds and is a great substitute for dairy. According to Almondbreeze.com, it contains neither cholesterol nor lactose and is approved for both vegans and vegetarians. Its almond base makes it naturally sweet while still being low in sugar, fat and carbs. It’s also rich in fiber and vitamin E.

In addition, La Brea still offers soymilk as a great alternative. Soymilk is high in protein and unlike dairy, it is low in saturated fat and has no cholesterol.

La Brea also offers a variety of healthy dining options on their menu. The Caesar salad includes romaine lettuce, chicken, parmesan cheese and tomatoes. It contains approximately 63g of protein. The chicken salad is another healthy alternative. It includes chicken, Napa cabbage and radicchio and contains approximately 29g of protein.

Be sure to take advantage of La Brea’s latest additions to the menu and enjoy an almond milk latte the next time you’re looking for the perfect pick-me up.
