MORAGA, CALIF. – Senior Forward Jazmine Jackson broke the all-time steals record in Pepperdine Women’s Basketball history this weekend. Jackson broke the record last Saturday in a game against the St. Mary’s Gaels at McKeon Pavilion. Although the Waves lost the game, 56-43, Jackson surpasses a 22-year-old record in the process.
Jackson Surpasses Long-Standing Record
Dionne Burgess (’90) held the previous record, with 239 steals. With 5 steals against the Gaels on Saturday, Jackson set the new all-time steals record at 243. Jackson also broke the record faster than Burgess did. Burgess broke the previous record in 109 career games, while Jackson did it in just 105 games.
Another Accolade to a Great Career
“I feel so honored and blessed,” says Jackson (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep). “It’s another good accolade to my career.”
The senior forward also commented on the importance of defense in her game, “I was always taught from a young age to play good defense.”
And it shows, Jackson leads her team in total steals this season (52) and is 2nd on the team in defensive rebounds (54). She also has a strong offensive game, leading the team in total points and points per game this season. But Jackson sees her individual achievements as secondary.
“It’s good when you get individual recognition… but you can’t win without a team,” says Jackson. “I wouldn’t be able to get all those steals without the help of my teammates.”

Plans After Pepperdine Basketball

Right now, Jackson and her fellow teammates still have games to play, they travel to the University of San Diego to face the USD Toreadors this Saturday at 2pm. Listen on pepperdinesports.com.
