Gasoline prices setting new records

October 18, 2004 by Pepperdine Graphic

Gasoline prices in Southern California are reaching record highs. Prices have risen 24 cents since September 14th and are at record October levels.

The Automobile Club of Southern California says that a gallon of self-serve unleaded now costs $2.35 cents.

Van Nuys has the lowest average gas prices in Southern California, where a gallon costs $2.24. Santa Barbara has the highest at $2.52 while the national average is $1.97.

Decreased oil production in the Gulf of Mexico and political instability in the Middle East are the reasons for the increasing costs.
