A fire broke out Wednesday morning at Bluffs Park, just north of Pepperdine’s campus. So far, the fire has burned 40 acres and one home on Old Malibu Road, according to KTLA.
The fire — called the Broad Fire — ignited just after 9 a.m., on Wednesday. L.A. County Fire responded to the blaze, along with the Lost Hills Sheriff’s department. LACFD is using Alumni Park for their air operations, utilizing the pond water to extinguish the flames.
Pepperdine’s campus is not threatened by the Broad Fire, according to an Emergency Services email sent to the Pepperdine community. Winds are blowing away from campus, pushing the fire southwest towards Old Malibu Road.

Pacific Coast Highway closed in all directions from Corral Canyon to Webb Way. All classes on Pepperdine’s Malibu campus will continue as scheduled, but Emergency Services are advising students to contact their professors about possible challenges reaching campus.
Malibu is under a red flag warning, starting Wednesday morning and lasting through Friday, Nov. 8. Winds are expected to reach 45 to 60 mph with gusts up to 80 mph during the red flag warning.
Pepperdine is continuing to monitor the situation.
This is a developing story.
