Face Off: Technology ban?

January 29, 2013 by Kai Woods Decker and Hannah Samson

Should professors be allowed to ban technology, such as laptops, from their classrooms?

Kai Woods Decker

Junior

Yes:

I think they should be able to ban technology in their classrooms. It’s their lesson and they should teach it the way they please.

No:

I think we need to internalize our responsibility as students to listen. I think it’s also the responsibility of a teacher to make a class engaging to where I don’t bring my computer, to where I don’t even want to check my phone because I’m so engaged in what is going on in the class.
