After two and a half years, the colonial period is ending in the history of the Delta Tau Delta (DTD) fraternity as they receive their official charter.
The DTD colony at Pepperdine first started the fall semester of 2009. Today, the group has 49 members, and has worked to build a foundational legacy and presence in the Pepperdine community and Greek system, including winning multiple awards at their division conference. Last semester, the group submitted their formal application to become a full chapter and were accepted.
“The brothers have put their hearts and souls into this and we’ve been given an amazing opportunity,” DTD President Zach Palsson said.
The chapter application included a history of the colony, including previous obstacles to establishing the group and how they overcame them, as well as future goals and plans to meet them. The application also included letters of endorsement from University officials and the Pepperdine Inter-Club council. Finally, a record of scholarship, showcasing the academic strengths of the group was submitted.
“We wanted to ensure that we had a strong foundation in many core areas before we received our charter,” President Emeritus Dustin Dresel said. “I am unfathomably excited that all the work we’ve been putting into this fraternity the past two years is finally being recognized and paying off in a very concrete and tangible way.”
The formal Chartering Ceremony is scheduled for April 18 with DTD alumni, members from the National chapter and members from the Chapman University chapter in attendance.
“Getting our charter is just the beginning,” Palsson said. “Now, we just want to truly grow and excel.”
