Classes will resume tomorrow although most roads leading to Pepperdine are still closed and the ‘Canyon Fire’ was only 15 percent contained as of 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County fire department. The blaze has scorched more than 4,400 acres in Malibu and has damaged more than 20 structures, including faculty and students’ houses off-campus.
To return to school, students are advised to use Kanan Dume Road, which is the only route to Pepperdine at this time.
“With the personal safety of our community members in mind, Pepperdine urges faculty, staff and students to exercise caution in commuting to the campus,” said the university emergency update sent to students at 2:30 p.m. today.
Malibu Canyon Road remains closed at this time. Pacific Coast Highway, south of the campus also remains closed.
