Crimes ­– Larceny/Theft –Identity Theft

Location: Drescher Student Housing Apartments

Summary: A student reported that an unknown individual had used a false name in an attempt to receive money from the student’s grandmother.

9/17/14 4:07 p.m.

Incidents – Heat and Smoke Alarms

Location: Center for

Communication and

Business

Summary: The Caf was evacuated after a staff member reported smelling something burning. There was no fire. Public Safety and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded, but the smell quickly dissipated and they were unable to determine the cause.

Incidents – Welfare Check

Location: Seaver Drive

Summary: A taxi driver reported an unconscious passenger in their vehicle. Public Safety Officers responded and identified the individual as a student that had fallen asleep.

9/23/14 7:34 a.m.

Incidents – Welfare Check

Location: Drescher Student Housing Apartments

Summary: A concerned parent reported that they were unable to reach their son who was reportedly feeling ill earlier in the day and requested a welfare check. Public Safety officers made contact with the student without incident; the student called his parents to let them know he was OK.

11/4/14 8:34 a.m.

Traffic Related – Traffic

Accident, Non-Injury

Location: Banowsky Blvd.

Summary: A student said a bee entered their vehicle window and caused them to swerve, accidently striking an unattended parked car. LA County paramedics and California Highway Patrol responded. The student was escorted to the Student Health Center with minor injuries.

Location: Via de Casa & Via Pacifica Intersection

Summary: A Public Safety officer observed a person lying in the street and identified them as a current student. The officer determined that they were with another student and engaged in apparent horseplay. Both students were warned about the safety concerns.

Location: Via de Casa Road

Summary: A condo resident reported the theft of a BBQ propane tank. It was determined a short time later that someone borrowed the tank and no crime was committed.

Location: Baxter Drive

Summary: Public Safety officers responded to a report of individuals trespassing at the Baxter Drive jacuzzi. The students were warned that the area is restricted to residents and their invited guests.

Location: Keck Science

Center

Summary: A faculty member reported the theft of animals from a classroom.

Circumstances

Location: Lovernich Student Apartments

Summary: Public Safety officers responded to investigate a report of white powder found in a container. The substance was later determined to be laundry detergent.

12/15/14 11:31 a.m.

Incidents – Annoying Phone Call(s)

Location: GSBM Beckman Management Center

Summary: A staff member reported that a prospective student applicant would not accept being denied admission and began making multiple annoying phone calls and visited the dean’s office. An officer advised the person of trespassing on private property and escorted the person off campus.

1/30/15 7:21 a.m.

Incidents – Suspicious Person

Location: George Page

Residential Complex

Summary: There was a report of a suspicious person sleeping in a laundry room. A second person was found in a vehicle parked in a nearby parking lot. The individuals had no affiliation with the university or official business on campus. A Public Safety officer warned the individuals for trespassing on private property and escorted them off campus.

Circumstances

Location: Joslyn Plaza

Summary: A staff member reported observing several unsupervised teens on the Elkins Auditorium rooftop. Public Safety officers made contact with a parent of one of the minors who was there to pick all of them up, and advised them about the safety concern. The individuals were cooperative and left campus without further incident.

2/14/15 10:42 p.m.

Traffic Related – Enforcement – Vehicle Stop

Location: Seaver Drive

Summary: A Public Safety officer observed an individual hanging from a roof rack on a moving vehicle. The officer conducted a vehicle stop and identified both individuals as students.

2/17/15 1:36 p.m.

Incidents – Welfare Check

Location: Malibu Campus

Summary: A concerned staff member reported that an international student had missed classes for an extended period of time and requested a welfare check. Public Safety officers investigated the report and determined that the student did not attend the school orientation or any other classes.

3/6/15 1:16 p.m.

Incidents – Welfare Check

Location: Off Campus

Summary: A person identified him or herself as a friend of a current student. They reported a concern that they were unable to reach the student for an extended period of time and requested a welfare check. Public Safety officers made contact with the student without incident; the student informed the Public Safety officer that they are no longer friends with the individual who made the inquiry.

3/27/15 4:10 p.m.

Fire/Hazards – Misc.

Rescue

Location: Seaver Academic Complex

Summary: A staff member reported another staff member being trapped in his office due to a problem with their office door. Public Safety officers and Facilities Services responded. Public Safety officers and Facilities Services were able to get the staff member out of their office without incident.
