Time to get up bright and early for our 8 a.m. classes. Our alarms wake us up and we get ready…and it’s freezing cold. We put on our sweaters and coats, jeans and long boots and head to school. But as soon as it hits noon, the sun is out and we’re sweating like we just got out of Zuma class. It’s weather like this that makes us think Katy Perry’s song, “Hot N Cold” is not just about a boy.
Living in Malibu during the winter season is confusing. How do you dress for weather that changes constantly, and is so unpredictable? We’ve got your answers right here.
Winter season=layer season. Wearing a few layers of thin material can smooth your transition from hot to cold weather throughout the day, while still looking trendy! For instance, you could wear a thin long-sleeve top with boyfriend jeans and a blazer. Incorporating vests, tights, scarves and leggings into your wardrobe is always a great idea for winter season because they are pieces that you can easily take off and put back on throughout the day (and, unlike a bulky jacket, they all fit comfortably in your book bag or purse).
Because we don’t live in Milwaukee or New York, where they get extreme winter weather, materials such as wool or cashmere are not necessary here. When in doubt, go with cotton in Malibu. Cotton is a very breathable material and is perfect for layering. Also for those with long hair, be sure to always have a hair tie around your wrist so you can put your hair up when it gets too warm! Planet Blue and Kitson Malibu have cute, colorful hair ties that can also serve as accessories.
When in doubt, make sure that you always leave home with items of clothing that are transferrable from cold to hot and vice versa.
Well, there you have it: your fashion survival kit for going through a Malibu winter! (because it is just sooo hard to bear.)
