The Pepperdine basketball teams kicked off their seasons with exhibition games at Firestone Fieldhouse this week.

In a Halloween matchup on Tuesday night, the women easily posted a 73-52 victory over the Westmont College Warriors. Junior Daphanie Kennedy and sophomore Jessica Ross scored 12 points apiece and freshman Miranda Ayim added nine in the winning effort.

Ross was 4-of-7 from the floor, connecting four times from beyond the arc. Along with the nine points, Ayim grabbed six rebounds in 23 minutes for the Waves, who shot an impressive 45 percent (28-of-62).

The men followed up the women’s performance the following night with a 110-102 overtime victory over Cal Baptist University as Head Coach Vance Walberg and his up-tempo style of play made their debut in front of the home crowd.

Five players scored in double figures, with senior guard Marvin Lea leading the way with 20 points.
