SPORT

Men’s Volleyball

YEAR

Freshman

HEIGHT/WEIGHT

6’9”/200 lbs.

WHAT HE DID

This upstart freshman has stepped into the starting outside hitter position left by All-American Scott Wong and has accepted the challenge with a full head of steam.

In the Millie Severson Tournament, Rooney knocked down 11 kills in the first two matches against La Verne and Long Beach with a dislocated finger. After getting through the first game jitters, Rooney smashed 15 kills in the four-game loss to UCSB.

The following weekend at the Wyndham West Coast Challenge, Sean led the Waves with 17 kills in their four game victory over the USC Trojans. He then added 13 kills and an ace against UCI in the Waves five-game loss. His capstone for the weekend was firing 12 kills with a .647 hitting percentage against UCLA.

OFF THE COURT …

The tall, quiet Chicago native was listed as the No. 2 recruit on Volleyball Magazine’s Fab 50 list of top high school recruits last year and was also a top high school golfer for Wheaton Warrenville South High School. He trained last summer with the World University team in Colorado Springs.
