Apolitical: Tumblr, Afghanistan, and JK Rowling

Today’s big stories are coming to you from Tumblr, Afghanistan, and the desk of JK Rowling.

According to a policy change released today, Tumblr will no longer permit pro-anorexia blogs on their site. In fact, they will be added to the category of “pro-self harm” blogs, which are under ban.

Afghani activist Fawzia Koofi has published her memoir, Favored Daughter. The book describes the hardships of life for women in Afghanistan after the rise of the Taliban regime, especially for Koofi, the daughter of a politically progressive family. Koofi became Afghanistan’s first female deputy speaker of Parliament and is considering a bid for the Afghan presidency.

Big news for all you “Harry Potter” fans! JK Rowling is taking up the pen once more; only this story won’t have anything to do with Hogwarts. In a press release, Rowling described this upcoming work as an adult fiction book — the title hasn’t been released yet, but stay tuned!
