Andrew Putnam named Byron Nelson Finalist

Senior men’s golfer Andrew Putnam was announced as one of the five finalist for the Byron Nelson Award the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on April 19th.

Each year the award is given to a graduating senior and final selection is based equally upon a cumulative collegiate academic and golf career. Character and integrity are also taken into consideration according to the GCAA press release.

Other finalists include Cyril Bouniol of Abilene Christian Harris English of Georgia Timothy Madigan of New Mexico State and Chris Morris of Centre College. The winner will be announced May 3rd.

Should he win the award Putnam would become the third Wave to receive the honor. His brother Michael Putnam received the award in 2005.

Putnam along with the rest of the men’s golf team is trying to defend its 2010 title   while competing at the West Coast Conference championships in Hollister Calif.
