Provost Darryl Tippens interviewed for the provost position at Abilene Christian University (ACU) on March 8 and 9. As provost at Pepperdine, Tippens is the University’s chief academic officer.
Although Tippens said he cannot say much about his opportunity at ACU at this point, he did make clear that he has not been actively looking for positions elsewhere.
“I am frequently asked to apply for positions at other institutions, and I turn these requests down routinely,” Tippens wrote in an email.
When he was contacted about the provost opportunity at ACU, however, Tippens decided to take a closer look because of his close connection to the institution.
“I love my work at Pepperdine and am proud of the many successes during my 11 years here, but ACU also holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I taught English for almost 14 years. It’s the alma mater of my two sons. I have maintained close ties to many wonderful people at that fine institution. When the search committee asked me to consider the position, I agreed.”
Tippens is one of two candidates currently interviewing for ACU’s provost position, and at this point, he is still figuring out what he will do next.
“I wish ACU great success, just as I want Pepperdine to continue its many successes,” he said. “Meanwhile, I’m seeking wisdom about where I can do the most good at this time in my career.”
