Pepperdine improves athletic standing

October 7, 2010 by Pepperdine Graphic

The National Collegiate Scouting Association released this year’s power rankings for colleges and universities that play at the NCAA Division I II and III levels on Oct. 6.

Pepperdine is ranked as the top school in the West Coast Conference the fourth-best Division I institution in the state of California and 39th among all NCAA Division I schools across the nation.

Power rankings are based on athletic and academic success measured by the NCSA. More precisely the NCSA uses the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup rankings the NCAA student-athlete graduation rate for each school and the U.S. News & World Report standings to create a rank.

Pepperdine has an academic rank of 58 and athletic rank of 103 and an NCAA graduation rate of 146.  In California out of the schools ranked the only schools that scored higher were Stanford at No. 1 University of California Berkeley at No. 22 and UCLA at No. 33.

The NCSA press release about the power rankings assures that the power rankings are meant to “assess the academic and athletics standards of all NCAA athletic programs across the country according to Pepperdine Sports.

The Power Rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I II and III levels.”
