Freshman Christian Goodwin has a song in his heart and choir to thank for his enrollment at Pepperdine.

A transfer student from Cal Poly, Goodwin knew that he would be attending Pepperdine after his initial fall semester there.

He was recruited last summer by Dean of Admissions Paul Long after Long heard him sing on a choir trip to Italy. When Long offered him a second semester spot here, Goodwin jumped at the chance to attend the school that he had been looking at since his freshman year in high school.

Originally from Grass Valley, Calif., Goodwin kept up his singing once he got to Pepperdine, and can currently be seen performing with the choir on campus.

“I saw choir as a good opportunity to further my music education, and an outlet to meet more people,” Goodwin said.

As for his decision to do his singing at Pepperdine, Goodwin said, “My parents chose it for the business program. I chose it for the view.”

Do you have any nicknames?

“Super C” because it’s in my e-mail address. My mom calls me “Cute Guy” because my initials are “C.G.”

What’s your favorite song?

“Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel.

Do you like Easy Mac?

No! The calories!

What type of kit-chen appliance would you want to be?

I think I’d be a blender, because you can take a lot of different things and blend them up to make something good.

Have you ever owned a Beanie Baby?

I never bought one for myself, but I was given one. I gave it away to my sister. It was the octopus. I don’t know its name.

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen?

“The Land Before Time Part Seven.” But I liked all the other ones.

What about the best movie?

“Office Space,” because of the whole guy with the stapler thing. And when the other guy pushes his cubicle wall down and his boss says, “Yeah, I’ll have somebody come clean this up for you.”

What’s your favorite piece of clothing?

My Italian shoes, because I got them in Italy. The ladies compliment them.

What foreign countries have you been to?

I’ve been to England, Switzerland and Italy. And I’m going to Paris this summer with the Pepperdine French language program.

Which did you like best?

Italy is the best, for sure.

What’s the worst thing that they serve in the Caf?

Steak for breakfast. Steak is good for dinner, but for breakfast — what are we, cavemen?

What time do you get up on Saturday mornings?

I wake up at 7:30. No one else is up.

Do you surf?

I haven’t even been to the beach since I’ve been at Pepperdine. I have to, though. My grandma told me she would stop sending checks unless I went to the beach at least once this year. She said I need to have more fun.

What is the weirdest animal you’ve seen running around Pepperdine?

My roommate.

Do you have a favorite talk show?

“Regis and Kelly,” because Kelly’s so cute.

If you could paint your dorm room walls any color, what color would you choose?

I’d paint them blue. Blue is my color. What more can I say?

What universal law rules your life?

Murphy’s law. If something bad can happen, it will happen.

What was your favorite Convo of the year?

The nun, Helen Prejean. But I liked it when the Hawaiian girls came, too.

How many pairs of flip-flops do you own?

Twenty-five. They’re not all here at school, though.

What is your favorite flip-flop brand?

Old Navy for color, Abercrombie for quality.

Do you like Christmas or your birthday better?

Christmas, because it’s drawn out over a whole month. Your birthday is just one day, and I’ve been sick on like six of my birthdays.

What’s your favorite quote?

“Lovers are notoriously spontaneous,” by Joan Oliver Goldsmith. I like it because I think it defines what love should be, spontaneous.

If you were a superhero, what would you want your name to be?

Flashin’ Turbo Swan.

What is your favorite brand of bottled water?

Fiji, because it’s from the islands.

Do you like “Real World” or “Road Rules” better?

“Real World,” because you get dirtier on “Road Rules.”

What can you buy with a dollar?

I’d buy stamps. I’m always out of stamps when I need them.

What’s the one thing you want the world to know about you?

I’m single, if anyone cares.
