Lacrosse

The Pepperdine men’s lacrosse team improved their record Saturday with an 8-4 victory over Biola at Alumni Park to improve their season to 2-4.

They led the first two quarters in shots but fell behind in the second half. Luckily they were able to hold onto their lead and the victory.

The team’s last match against Marymount College on March 12 ended in a 19-2 domination in Rancho Palos Verdes an uplifting turn for the team after four consecutive losses starting their season.

The Waves are now ranked third in the SLC DII East Conference behind Occidental and University of California San Diego.

With three games remaining in the season the Waves are on the road over the next two and a half weeks.

Baseball

The baseball team improved their record to 10-10 with their fourth straight victory Tuesday with a 5-3 victory over Cal Poly at home following the weekend sweep of No. 23 Coastal Carolina. The weekend’s victories were 2-1 2-1 and 7-1.

Freshman Matt Maurer pitched seven innings in the first win over Coastal Carolina. Junior Aaron Gates pitched eight in the second game. The series sweep marked the team’s first victory over a nationally ranked team since last March according to Pepperdine Sports.

Junior Brian Humphries leads the team with 11 RBIs followed by sophomore Joe Sever who has eight. Sophomore Chris Amezquita leads the team with 13 runs followed by Humphries with nine and sophomore Zach Vincej with eight.

The Waves next face Dayton at home Friday Saturday and Sunday March 25-27 at 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Then they will travel to face Cal Poly Tuesday March 29 at 6 p.m.
