ONLINE EXCLUSIVE – Starting last week, restoration of the Phillips Theme Tower, which stands at the main entrance of campus, has been underway.
The goal of this restoration is to paint the Theme Tower building’s exterior stucco, complete with door and frame, as well as the installation of a bird deterrent system. The estimated cost of this restoration is $75,000.
Facilities Management & Planning (FM&P) coordinator Raul Perez called for this restoration as he had seen signs of color fade and rusting on the metal trim of the building. In addition, he proposed installing a safe bird deterrent system that will repel swallows from nesting at the outdoor feature.
The theme tower has been covered in a black netting to protect the surrounding structures and passing vehicles from the paint over-spray.
The restoration work takes place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
The project is scheduled to finish by October 21, 2011.
