To remedy the steep costs of living, Pepperdine works with the local community to set in place discounts at some of the businesses in and around Malibu for students who bring along their Pepperdine ID cards.
Students agree that such savings do not go unnoticed, including 20-year-old junior Nick Janner.
“As a college student, every saved penny helps,” Janner said. “Sometimes discounts come at unexpected times, and it is a sense of relief to know that the community cares about supporting our school.”
These discounts come in a variety of forms, from food to clothing to amusement park and movie tickets.
Food
For a traditional meal out at one of the restaurants in town, one could expect to pay $15 or more — for college students trying to stick to a budget, this can be a bit excessive.
For a bite to eat on a budget, Malibu Seafood gives students a 10 percent discount on their food.
Sharky’s in Calabasas off Agoura Road is another great option that also gives a 10 percent discount to Pepperdine students.
Chipotle in the Country Mart is giving free drink cups to students all throughout the month of September when you purchase a meal. Just show your student ID card at checkout.
Fun
Malibu is adjacent to Los Angeles and many concerts and events throughout the school year. Many students don’t know about Barry’s Tickets, which can provide a 10 percent discount on concert, sports and events tickets when you use the code: “PEP010”.
Pepperdine works alongside amusement parks, such as Disneyland and Universal Studios, to provide discounts to students.
Not to mention, as a Pepperdine student, you can buy cheap movie tickets too in order to save a few bucks. You can get these tickets at OneStop and enjoy some awesome films, amusement parks, and fun on a budget.
Shopping
Vintage Grocer’s provides an option for students where they can have their purchases billed to either their parents or themselves using a “House Account.”
J. Crew in the Country Mart offers a 15 percent discount to students and teachers across the country.
This is just to name a few of the many discounts Pepperdine provides to its students. Nikki Winn, a 21-year-old junior, said she has benefited from Pepperdine student discounts.
“If you haven’t known about these discounts before, go try them out. A few bucks saved here and there makes a big difference in the long run.”
